Initie en 2007 en collaboration avec l'Universite de Californie (USA), le projet de recherche relatif a l'utilisation des outils de la biotechnologie comme moyen de lutte contre le Criquet pelerin se fixe comme objectif d'utiliser les methodes modernes de la transformation genetique pour rendre le Criquet pelerin inoffensif lors des phases de son developpement qui le conduisent a la gregarisation et a la migration. Cette methode, qui s'inscrit sur le long terme, pourrait venir en appui aux methodes essentiellement chimiques utilisees actuellement contre le fleau acridien.
